I want to guess where the scenario will go next:

this relative of his will do something stupid, up to and including releasing that same evil spirit from captivity.

Somehow, MC will be able to magically protect ML from this spirit - destroy it.

Together with the death of the spirit, the connection between MC and ML will be broken.

But MC will still remain with ML. Happy ending.
