In the novel, Ray will get back his empire again at Strass/Strath, get married, connect two empires El Fischer and Strass... I think they both still a lover couple even though they both separated their way cuz in the novel, Jiskar said everytime he come to Strass, he will sleep with Ray, I guess Jiskar do whatever he can do the best for Ray, they both are emperor, the highest rank, so even if they both still a lover or sleep together, the ppl or nobles can't do anything about it cuz they both are emperor... For me, it's a good ending
