lmao I've read all the novels and then some into the web novel, and i can assure that is not correct. Maomao is not his consort, that is a bizarre misinterpretation of at whats actually going on in the novels right now.

Maomao finally officially reciprocated Jinshi's feelings at the end of volume 12 so like they both know they like each other but they haven't done anything since then because of the complications you already got spoiled about. Jinshi is royalty so Maomao would lose her freedom if they were to have relations of any kind. THATS when she'd become his concubine, but they haven't done anything yet and Jinshi won't he wants to shed his title altogether so they can be together freely but as of right now we don't how he'd accomplish that because of a fuck load of politics I'm not gonna explain. They had a more saucy scene at the end of 13 where Jinshi accidentally booty called Maomao and she rocked up fully prepared to have sex with him knowing that would make her his concubine but he sent her home because he didn't want to do that to her. That's pretty much right now. The author is currently updating what will become volume 17 and there hasn't been much movement on their relationship since 13 really. Other characters keep trying to get them to act like a normal fucking couple and stick them together for little dates and shit but they both are just too awkward and work focused to do anything really lmao It's a really cute and sweet story in my opinion but it moves extremely slow you have to have the patience of a saint

As for their positions, Maomao works at the medical office as an assistant (as of Vol 14), and Jinshi is still the Moon Prince. But he is not first in line to the throne (well he would be if people found out he is the Emperor’s son) so at least for now he is just making sure the emperor lives long enough for his sons (Gyokouyou’s and Lihua;s sons) to grow up and be able to take the throne. It’s gonna be a long journey.
