Apparently, not in this story. The author wanted the abo thing be a background. Like the news movies about zombie apocalypse, where the zombie is just a thing and human's relationships is the main plot.
I kind of like that. it's like an evolution of the trope. not having pheromones as an excuse to move the story forward could lend to something more interesting
I don't think you should feel bad. from what others are saying the omegaverse aspect isn't a main plot point. i think the author kind of wants you to forget about.
