While you are not wrong, life can be very hard, and things don't often work out the way we want... and people will be jerks sometimes. You have to prepare your kids for life - that's your job, as a parent: keep them alive and prepare them for the world. You can't, and shouldn't, try to prepare the world for your kids, that does a disservice to the children. There's this whole mindset of "don't tell your kids 'no'. it causes trauma. just redirect them." This is not reality. Your boss won't redirect you, they'll tell you no. And if you don't discipline kids, you end up with kids who don't know or understand boundaries and they become massive jerks as adults (or worse).
The key is to find balance between making things better (not easier) for your kids while still teaching them properly. But it's hard to figure out.
Say it with me : we should always want kids to have an easier life than us. Wtf is wrong with adults, wanting kids to "build character" and shit?? Kids are SUPPOSED TO have a nice, easy life.
