honestly I kinda assumed the doors stay open in case any "monster" comes in town and people have to quickly get inside a house.
That's a good theory, like always leaving your car door unlocked in a bear town.

And there definitely something fishy about this town. They definitely killed or kicked out everyone that wasn't necessary for the fonctionnent of the town and the fact he said "new teacher", maybe that means they already had a teacher before
