I have nothing against the author wanting to make Chris ending with the Phantom. But I find the idea of doing that by making Chris a violent and possessive asshole is lazy writing.
That show that the author don't understand how to write a complex love triangle where all the character are in their right. Also don't forget that the story choose to use the "fated pair" trope. It as some specifics rules that you cannot broke without understand what you do with it.

i think bonds are breakable. just not easy.
also i don’t think the writer is trying to follow the novel… I would argue that what shows the or writing is the MC getting constantly raped but sure, what u said as well.

It's depend of the type of the bound ^^.
I talk with a friend who know quite well the trope of "Fated Pair" ; and she made clear that, unless you are in a fantasy setting with curses or magic, you can't break a bound when you use the Fated Pair trope. The character can't also make mistake, and choose the "wrong" mate.
Yes, usually I let the author cook because I like to see how they adapt a story but... dunoo I am not find of the choice made here ( Rapes are useless, story wise I mean ; and the characters aren't really relatable. ) ?

well does your friend know that every omegaverse / fated pair stories quite literally have its own rules? I’ve read a couple where bonds were breakable. the one on the top of my head is “ Aesthetics of Unpleasantness”.
