I think that maybe that dream he had where adam hung himself may actually be true, since we don't know the extent of eve's powers. Maybe after this gate, he goes blind and almost dies, and at the realization he'll never see eve again he kills himself? That dream he had seemed so real, I feel like there needs to be some truth to it. If that's the case, then eve not only brought him back to life but also restored his vision, perhaps making him even more unstable?
my theory is that Eve gave Adam a second chance by erasing his memories because maybe Adam almost died because of him. but Eve is unstable so his power didn't manage to erase Adam's memories entirely (their first meeting stayed) and Eve decided to let him go by erasing his own memories associated with Adam BUT all thanks to ‘imprint’ Eve instinctively is attracted to Adam
