I kind of agree but the doctor did say he won't just save anyone, just those who he thinks is useful. Maybe that's why he is kind to them since Guwon don't want to lose useful people?

Exactly, he only saves our guy when he learns he's a teacher and can be of use to his town. Seems like he's real flippant about human lives.
I don't trust that guy, like at all. The town seems too good to be true, he's way too open and friendly from the get go. There's 100% something dark lurking under the surface and I am seated for it.
