They’re supposed to be celibate and never marry (some exceptions, like if you pursue the priesthood after marriage) and dedicate themselves to god. So this is basically a doomed relationship that’s being showed in a lighthearted way

Yeah the open end is kinda weird. The artist/author just wanted to write a bit about homosexuality and religion I think, but not go too deep into the details bc that’s depressing. I don’t think they’ll actually keep in touch, too much temptation to violate vows (if he’s like catholic at least)
