Now this just fueled my theories
It's interesting bc he could never get the rock to the top, but for our ML is already there so instead of saying he has to accomplish a task, he already has and his duty is to protect it from falling which is a metaphor of his heaven
He has his heaven and needs to protect it from falling, a heaven that seems to be standing on shaky ground from the beginning, since the little we know abt the people in the town is that they are (to some extent) putting a facade in front of our ML
Anyways talking abt what I think of the ML outside of that, I think he grow up in the system w no family or support, and became a low life criminal or smth when the world was still stable. When everything fell he took advantage of that, ransacked a high end place and accidentally found this private village, then started to save people who were nice to him and treat them like family and this village on itself it's his own new family who he needs to protect at all cost

ive honestly thought about it as well, maybe a bit of parallels instead? The name itself has “hounds” in it, could it be referring to the hellhounds in hell? As saying that it doesn’t seem to be toe to toe on similarities but opposites instead, we’ll see how this unfolds im so excited love this kind of setting in stories
Who is Sisyphus?
Sisyphus is a figure in Homer's Iliad and other works of Greek mythology. He is reputed to be the founder of the Isthmian Games and is a trickster who receives eternal punishment for trying to cheat Death.
In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was a cunning king of Corinth. After his death, he was condemned in the underworld to roll a rock endlessly up a hill. Whenever the rock reached the top, it rolled right back down again, so Sisyphus could never finish his task. The poet Homer described Sisyphus' fate in the Odyssey.
Now the thing that's quite interesting is that our ml has put himself in charge to take care that the 'moon shaped' rock on top of the hill does not fall. In Sisyphus story in contrast the rock always falls just as it's about to reach the top. Our ml is also the leader of what our mc calls a sort of heaven. So idk buttt there could be a connection to how Sisyphus in hell never managed to place the rock on top of the mountain and how in this story, with it being on top, their base is a heaven for them.
Additionally sisyphus cheats death multiple times, our ml had very distinct frankenstein features hence my conclusion is that he too must have cheated death multiple times.
Another thing about Sisyphus is that Zeus was angry for Sisyphus thought himself smarter than him buttt our ml in this case is dumber than a 6 year old kid in terms of schooling... so idk the connections are just AMAZINGGGG
