yeah the whole point of that relationship is the fact that she was really not the villain that he was projecting her to be. He saw her as his father that her trying to communicate her feelings and venting regarding the relationship was very much like his father, and the whole point is that she was not at fault. His arc is trying to be open with himself and he tried to do that with his ex. And she’s not in the space to open up. Also it’s a bit eye raising how she associated him being queer to why he wasn’t a good bf. But that’s the point oh well

    i think it also shows him as a toxic character. he was abused and now projects that abuse to everyday life and is a bad partner. he's a toxic person. and that's important because then we see him grow to love MC he grows as a person. i thought that the fact that he was toxic would make sense as to why he wasn't a good boyfriend. so idk why ppl hate the ex so bad (forgive me if it doesn't make a lot of sense im inebriated)

    No this makes complete sense! And it’s true!! The ex’s needs weren’t met at all and after going through something like that I’d crash out too
