This is justifying it … using a traumatic past in order for a character to act like a dick is an easy way to give ground for this decision (of the author)- there will be no other reason given for chase except that he was abused in the past

What my comment meant was that the author gives chase a traumatic past so he has a „legit“ reason to act like this. It’s also suppose to make the reader feel empathetic towards him = justification of his behavior.
