It's standard Mashima practice to recycle his character's, I expected this here as well. Minerva is a bit of a surprise, but appreciated.
I like the story so far, it is a bit different from Mashima's more adventure oriented stories, but the pacing feels horrendous. Character's are barely S set up before getting killed (which does take away the effect from an important character death). Maybe it's a weird start to set up some more mysteries and afterwards the pacing mellows out but for now it's just incredibly rushed.
