He also tries to kill himself for a while when he first ends up in prison, plus do we know the reason why he can kinda do anything inside without consequences? I don’t know what was written this is just me guessing, When he looked back at him later on the bench instead of flesh it looked like a meat texture. I have a funny feeling that may be a hint perhaps something along the lines of cannibalism or something along those lines may have been written there.
