Yes he does love him later on. He care about him truly and does his best for the mc. The ML got him a resident registration number meaning if he got sick, he could go to the local hospital, and he could use a phone without having to borrow someone identity.

FYI the MC’s punishment like getting beaten up, mostly happened when the ML was still struggling with his emotions. For example, when the ML broke the MC’s leg, it was because the MC kept running back to the Red Mansion (even though he lived with the ML) due to his hallucinations and worsening mental state, believing he still had to pay off his debt. The ML broke his leg to keep him close. That said, the MC didn’t really care and actually preferred it when the ML was aggressive, lol. I just wanted to mention this because their relationship does get healthier over time, which becomes clear as you read the novel and the ML POV.
