I like the side couple stories if it’s not a toxic one, if I don’t like one of the characters that was in the main story then I won’t read their story. For me to read a side couple story I have to like both characters, there is this one BL where I refused to read the side couple’s story because I didn’t like one of the characters

OMG THANK YOU!!
I hate side couples, I'm sorry. I'm not saying I hate couples other than the main couple having a romance, what I hate is when I start a story to read about the main characters, THE ONES I'M ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN, and like 40% of the screentime is about other characters. I actually like when I'm interested in a side couple and the author makes a spin-off about them, then I will read it, but I want to focus on a specific couple one at a time. I want to get a conclusion to the main story, and THEN decide whether or not find out about a side couple, not wait anxiously a week for a continuation to a cliff-hanger in the main relationship only to find out it's not even about them.
Here U Are was the perfect example to this: yes, I did like the side couples, but... the main couple (which I adore) is in a crisis and I've been waiting for months for it to be solved, JUST MOVE ON PLEASE
I thought I was alone in this because everybody seems to WANT more and more side couples in a story...
Phew that felt good
Is it just me or are 99% of side couples actually insufferable. It might just be my own opinion, but I don’t hate side couples because of who they are or how their story goes.
No, I mainly dislike them because they are either shoehorned in between the main couple’s story (like the side couple in BJ Alex or Jinx) or they straight up get WAY TOO MUCH run time AFTER the main story but are still under the same title (like in Love Is An Illusion).
Like, in my opinion, if the author wants to write their stories so bad they should just make another title for them alone.
It’s just really annoying, in my opinion. Makes me feel like I’m forced to like the side couples and if I don’t I can’t say verbally I like the story (because I wouldn’t be liking the WHOLE story).
DISCLAIMER: This is not to say I hate every side couple. Sometimes I like the side couple more than the main couple, but they are few and far between and fall into the same problems I have with other side couples.
