NGL, I kinda hated him when he flipped and showed hatred towards MC without even listening to his explanations. You tell you love him but hate him when your trauma hit you. It was so uncalled for after seeing them being so lovey dovey.
But now seeing him redeem for his action, cannot say I hate him anymore. But there is bitter aftertaste.

Yeah, it's the same feeling if you and your friends each have a slice of cake, you are looking forward to eat that cake later, but the friends eat it by mistake. You don't wanna say anything bc it's just cake ao you stay quiet. They figure it out and are remorseful, so they go and buy you a whole cake just for you. But it just does not feel the same and you don't really want that cake bc it's associated with fad feelings now.

To be fair, I failed to communicate my point. It was not meant to compare the offense, I just chose the simplest possible offence scenario to emphasize the second part - redemption.
Your scenario has an identical offence to Alexis/Eugene situation, but redemption is only an attempted apology - which is a bit flimsy imo, I would not trust a friend ever again if all I get is an apology after something so big.
My scenario has is talking about the friends recognizing their fault and going above and beyond to apologize + make amends + make you feel better + show you that they care. They got you a whole ass cake just to replace a single slice and you know they did everything right and there is possibly nothing you can be angry about at this point - but you still can't bring yourself to be happy, since this new cake has a different meaning (regret, guilt). You were looking forward not to the cake itself, but to a treat, a reward, something you deserve. Cake is just a symbol. It wasn't about cake in the first place.
I chose cake situation just to make it as simple as possible.
So my point was, even if Alexis does everything right and goes beyond his apology to make amends and show Eugene how much he cares about him, it still would not feel the same. And even though Eugene says he already secretly forgave Alexis, he has lost that sweet feeling already.
A lot of hate on ML but compared to abusive and obsessive psycho MLs he is at best an orange flag. I've read too many thriller BLs that I'm just too desensitised to even label him as red flag lol.
