MC was held prisoner and forcibly marked by a man when he was a teen. The mark means he can only guide the person who marked him and if he tries to break the relationship it will cause an injury, it isn't usually put over the heart because that can kill the guide if the relationship is broken. He had been recruited into the bad guys guild right out of an orphanage when he was very young and was being trained to do basic guiding by holding hands and would move on to more intense stuff as he got older. The guy and his brother went into the great dungeon and did get out though they were very injured. The brother was nearly dead when they came back to the guild MC, who was only 14 and had no experience, was terrified when the guy tried to make him have sex with the brother to save him and resisted, so the brother died. The bad guy then manipulates MC into getting the mark by guilting him out because MC 'killed' his brother. He uses guilt and fear to control MC and MC gets something like battered spouse syndrome. When the guy had to be away for several days he had someone come in to feed MC and such. The guy who came in wasn't a POS and was disturbed by what was happening and fought the guy who was holding MC against his will. The bad guy fatally wounds the guy trying to save MC. During the fight the bad guy built up enough toxin to cause him to die, MC refuses to help him and watches him die. He never wants to see anybody die that way again, but he had to do what he had to do to escape that guy. The only way to neutralize the mark without killing him was for that guy to die.
