I get why it might seem off but this is a fantasy and crazy shit happens that twists things around but in this case the 10000000000 fantasy creature with an adult head x minor character is not what's happening
Yes he only dressed up as an older boy, because the owner of the mirror, I guess the seller, told him that nobody wants to look into the mirror and see a creepy little boy looking back at them. Which has a point, because if I looked in the mirror and then I saw a child looking back at me, I would be like nope and get the hell out of the house. I guess the guy told him he has to look like a handsome man and so the little boy made him look that way because the owner told him to. At least that's what I think happened in the novel? He was just a little kid but he pretended to be an adult because the owner told him to

Might be an unpopular oppinion but I hate how Verite and Balnche are a thing now, Verite used to be drawn as a man old enough that the King was jelous because of him. I got they changed it but it still feels creepy to me…
