What i want to know is: did he really love her though? Or was it just to get her pregnant? They were going to get married... Though giving birth to a baby pink dolphin might be kinda... still, if she loves him maybe she could get over it? I guess the child birth killed her, maybe he knew it'd kill her and wasn't worried about having to back out of the story he had concocted? Who knows?

This is actually started as indigenous brazilian legend, the pink dolphins are called "pink boto" and it says that botos protect the tribe from drowning (especially women and children), and sometimes they would turn into man to warn the tribe of dangerous situations.
The legend was passed for generations, but when reached the little villages it started to take another content. Since botos are really playfull they like to swim among people and graze women in their legs, then started the myth that botos could turn themselves into men looking for sex, especially from young women.
When women appeared pregnant from nowhere in the village it was custom to say "it's the boto's baby!".
Not a pretty story because this lead to hunting the poor animals because men wanted to do pendant with their skin and bones. :(
