yes, completely on the dot. a lot of men want their girlfriends/wives to be humbled and be “thankful” he chose her despite all her “flaws” (forced insecurities). the prince is such a good example of this type of toxic man who humiliate their partners so they think no one would accept them except for him.
I was reading ch25.2 p 6, and I suddenly understood the prince way more. like, he genuinely had it all planned out huh? He was really out here being happy that remi was jealous and he was like- yeah, I'll make her even more addicted to me, I'll manipulate remi to be even more subservient and obedient, and addicted, by letting her be more and more jealous, and then humiliate her and make it seem like she's the lucky one in the engagement because I forgave her, and kept her despite her ruined reputation--- that's why when she refused to apologise he was so shocked and blusing and shit
and that's why he actually went through with breaking up the engagement despite still having feelings for her-- he wanted her to come back and beg for his love.
he would have taken her back in a heartbeat, and kept her in the palm of *his* hands. like man, I'm genuinely thankful the OG Remi switched back when she did, because this story could have genuinely happened all because of the prince inferiority complex. worse, because of how freaking evil the new maiden is, it could have gone worse, like-- man, that prince now pisses me off to a degree that wasn't there before
