Because a lot of readers are emotionally intelligent enough to understand the underlying nuance to the story. Step-dad, even thinking MC was his real daughter, did nothing but show blatant malicious hate towards the child who only wished for affection from a parent. Because of him, the whole palace treated her as less than nothing and often mouthed off such cruel comments about her ever existing.
Whereas, real dad has no capacity for emotional attachment. His sons even say so and they all reflect that one way or another. MC was the odd one out with such intense emotional attachments despite her terrible upbringing. And THAT, is what drew her father in. The intellectual that he is can't understand it but he wants to. And that's the kicker isn't it? For all his faults and crass behaviour, he still kept his kids within arm's reach. Yes, first meeting was less than ideal but I wouldn't be surprised if more people had claimed to be his dad but were lying.
Both dads do indeed have faults but I just can't side with the one who mistreated her as a child and then suddenly changed his tune once she up and left. He had all those years to his advantage. Yet, what did he do? He has effectively made MC believe she wasn't important enough for people to want her by their side. And THAT is why I hate him.
First of all I hate how the fans like her real father and not her step-dad, they're both dickheads, "b-b-but her real-l f-father took her in!" NO in her first life he didn't even care or look for her, and I'm sure he didn't like or care about her at first, same with her step-dad they're both bad fathers and the mc pmo so bad bcz how can you not see your step-dad does love you and wtf do you run away some dumbass shit fucking hate almost everyone in this story
