I noticed that most manhwas feel much more fleshed out and complex. Mangas tend to follow the same exact formula in a short span of 5-6 chapters, which is like around 11 chapters of an average manhwa. Though Im not that much of a manhwa lover as they also have their cliches, I can admit you're much more likely to get something new and interesting from a manwha than a manga. Another thing could be art style as well bc I notice mangas, manhwas, and manhuas have very distinct styles and some may prefer others over the rest.
I also noticed this and personally don't prefer manhwas more! With more chapters, manhwas do have more flexibility when it comes to crafting a storyline, but I also do like the consistency of mangas, knowing that it won't take 100 chapters for the characters to get tgt/how each volume is likely dedicated to a single arc. Both manhwas and mangas have their good and bad stories, although based on mangago ratings a 9.0 manga is likely better than a 9.0 manhwa in my standards.
Ig the only gripe I have with older mangas is the art style. I don't think I could survive reading more than 2 chapters seeing those pointy chins and exaggerated proportions.
Great manga nowadays is rare.
Not all mangaka, but some mangaka just put some sexy girl, or cute girl without decent plot.
I mean the plot seems similar.
Not just manga, manhwa too.
Sexy, spicy is number one even without plot.
I'm tired with this troupe ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I can't choose my preference, because I like manga, manhwa or manhua.
But for me I want something decent.
Something that I can give 5 star.
i mean i like yaoi/bl so i read manhwa ones more since korean artits are getting more artistic and sick in the head art I like it but also cause they have good plot and art but mangas are my fav cause the japanese artists really put their all into the features and stuff so id say manga yaoi for art and plot then manhwa yaoi for plot and ideas
i think it's bc it's easier to read. manhwas are usually made for mobile phones, and are easy to scroll and see on a tiny screen, versus mangas that were drawn in a book format and therefore many readers who use mobile devices won't click on due to how inconvenient it is to read pages with tiny panels on a phone screen. so if you're not reading on a laptop or smth, the preference is usually scroll-type spreads, which are usually in manhwa-formats.
also manhwas are typically reliable sources of quick entertainment: they're less complex with either very specific themes that carry throughout the whole story (rather than multiple), and are meant for binging. and usually, manhwas' plotlines are SUPER on trend, so if you like a certain dungeon/action plot, you're guaranteed to like most other ones. similarly with romances, where most characters are stereotypes. so manhwas have a larger reception, since they play off those strengths, while mangas you kinda have to feel it out or read more into it to decide if you want to continue, since you don't exactly know where it's going or how the MC's going to develop. i also think manhwas also usually have a specific MC that the world exists for, and therefore the character is super eccentric/funny or like a certain stereotype that is usually ver well-received, while mangas are more complex and focus less on the MC, and have a wide range of characters that must grow on you. so mangas are kind of a hit-or-miss, and ppl are more critical of characters or stories that take longer to develop, esp if it doesn't start off super engaging. i also think manhwas are generally easier to digest, as they follow one main storyline, with like 2 main characters, and usually one main theme. meanwhile (at least popularized and well-received) mangas are more like novels, with multiple characters, multiple themes, and typically a lot of focus on the society the characters live in, while with manhwas, usually the world-building comes in when it relates to the MC.
^^ this is also like, not entirely true for mangas, there are a TON of mangas that follow the same format for manhwas. i just think that while i see a ton of mangas a lot like that format, i don't really see manhwas that follow the format i've labeled for mangas.
i also do think more viewers on here have a preference for storylines they won't find in store. so mangas, esp shonen mangas that gain popularity and animes, are easy to access irl, so ppl usually end up reading things they can't find in stores on here, such as BL, GL, smut, or just other manhwas (esp action ones). so usually the target audience on this site aren't ppl who read mangas, but manhwas.
I'll have to agree with @Lingz.
I trust a 9.0 manga over a 9.0 manhwa.
also, if you reverse the number of chapters, manga authors still come up on top. many of the longer manga are still good, but many of the shorter manhwa usually suck. usually just pwp, character have no substance, and its sloppy.
manga are good both short and long.
but manhwa is usually only good if it is long.
for a while now I've noticed that manhwas usually get higher ratings than mangas (at least in the bl category) so I'm wondering do people prefer manhwa more? lmk what you guys think and if u have a preference when it comes to this!
