I don't know, my grandfather spent most of his working life away on the job and shit hit the fan quite vigorously once he retired and had to spend time with my grandmother con-se-cutive-ly
Still, I am convinced this requires deliberately ignoring SO SO SO much that "Well, I didn't know, I was away on the job (even if it's the border)" heavily implies "... and I couldn't be bothered to care."
