I believe he doesn’t remember her as his pink-haired childhood friend but instead realizes that she’s Espin (the red-haired vice captain) in a new body

That's why I said he remember. He remember her. He's memories are going back just like what happened to the other guy.

I believe its different with the white hair guy since he doesn't remember her as "Espin the vice captain", he remembers her as "Pyn the pink haired girl" that he fell in love with. It weird that they both remember her but as different people.
