I think it's because it's very clear that they're starting to combine the chibi forms with the regular forms. We can clearly see that over time the faces have become much more round which it's not usually common in these type of Hunter/dungeon worlds or in most BL for that matter. Like it is giving cute but not given hot for lack of a better word. And given that there's probably some people who pay more attention to art than story I could see where the complaints may be coming from.

I don't think expecting people to just not have something to say when someone drastically changes how something looks is a reasonable argument. Look at it this way when someone sees a cover or a promo chapter to something and in the art is distinctively different and the actual novel it is not considered childish to be upset and to vocalized that upset when they expected to art to be a certain way. We are like 20 chapters into the book and given that there is no new artist announced as far as I'm aware and stuff for the art to just be changing to a different style is going to eventually catch people's attention and they're going to either like or not like it.
Additionally I would argue that the proportions do look a little off because of the way to art style has been before and now the way the arch style is they look like children. I'd expect to see his art style and a story that had mainly kids in it so they're looking younger than they actually do and it kind of gives off a chibi form that we're not used to when you're talking about this type of depiction. It's a type of art style that when you see it from the beginning to the end it's fine but when you change from something that was sharper more detailed more distinct artistry it does surprise people and not always in the best way

Is the drastic change in the room with us. The lines becoming softer does not mean it has changed drastically. Neither has it become less distinct. It’s nearly impossible for an artwork’s art style to stay consistent unless the thing is drawn by robots. Even when you have the same artist. If you have read a lot of works you will eventually see that it’s a given the art style changes. It gets annoying when every single time the art gets a slight change people just regurgitate it over and over again.
And no, when I say proportions i’m talking about the characters’ head to neck, head to shoulder ratio and other things. The characters becoming more “chibi” as you say, doesn’t mean the proportions are off. And again, I don’t think they look like children.
“what happened to the artstyle” please shut the fuck up OHMYGOODDDD. they look majestic idk what yall are on
