The novel is so so good I really recommend reading it!
Xie Lian doesn't immediately find out the ring contains Hua Cheng's ashes, more somewhere along the way (its not specifically said in the novel where)
In the novel the soldiers dont have a description on wether they look human or not, Ke Mo is described as "Rather than a man, one could say he was more like a walking wolf."
I think they draw them as creatures in the donghua to imply that they're ghosts more clearly? Could also just be a style choice
Aww man this is just left off at almost where the donghua was, I thought there was more. Tho I'm still glad this manhua exists cause I got to see the scenes that the donghua censored and the art style is just chef's kiss, I love it
Hua Cheng, I saw what you did there, dude, all those indirect kisses and hugs (▰˘◡˘▰)
Btw, did Xie Lian not know that the ring was Hua Cheng's ashes? When I watched the donghua, I thought he understood that it was indeed Hua Cheng's ashes, but the manhua left me with doubts, like I don't think he knew
And one more thing, I haven't read the novel yet, so I don't understand, why were the ghosts near the village drawn as some kind of creatures in the donghua? The soldiers of the Crescent Moon country, too. But they are drawn as humans in the manhua. What were they in the novel?
