That proposal wasn’t from Avinox pretty sure (unless I’m getting the names mixed up) plus I don’t think he knows about Laraine’s relationship with Avinox and is just trying to protect her by getting rid of all proposal letters and pretending he never got them in the first place

The proposal is from Avinox. I think he's burning it because he already turned down the royal family and accepting another proposal right after might seem like he's colluding with another family just to shun royalty? And if he knows Laranne and Avinox are in love then he cant turn it down too, so the only other choice is to burn it for now and act like it never arrived lol

Grandpa didn't even bother reading it so he can have space for deniability. He knows nothing. Politically, they can't use that as ammunition to ask for compensation. With him burning the letter, there is no evidence a marriage was ever talked about. That's important. Marriage is a huge power move for people like them. A letter like that might as well be he a business proposal. Family-wise, those smart enough *COUGH NOT VIEZE COUGH* will know you can't really keep secrets from grandpa so he's probably suspecting something might happen with the young couple and he didn't want this to implicate them too.
Soooo.....if a couple, EHEM, runs away together, it's not a family/business thing. It's a highly emotional and personal thing. The difference? Both Abinox and Larrane come from families that love them dearly. They'd get reprimanded maybe but never turned away.
