Theres good psychological and bad just as does every genre. But I see how you would justify the negative by the fact it’s psychological but idk I feel like you can tell whether it’s portrayed well or incorporated well by the author. But also I hardly rate stories bc it’s hard to put a number on stories imo but yeah thats what I think

you said it yourself, “its gonna have fucked up shit but again that also doesnt inherently mean i should like it”. accepting that you dont like something because its not for you is very valid. everyone has their own opinions ofc and if you just dont like it, then give it a bad rating its not that deep. i like something - good rating. i dont like it- bad rating. it is ok mediocre- mid rating. but you need to accept that when it comes to psychological stuff, when you personally dont like it because you cant handle it, it doesnt mean that others wont. but if you dislike that for other reasons, then live ur life

I mean my fav genre is psychological, most of my favourite belongs in that category so im very judgy
If we’re talking about “dark romance” (psychological series with romance involved) If the author just throws shit around like rape to please certain readers / for shock value or any other unreasonable stuff that isn’t necessary for the character’s development i will give a bad rating. There are so many ways you can portray it, you cant just randomly add this and add that.
I know its supposed to ruin you mentally at some point but i dont tolerate bad writing lol
For Psychological with no romance, i usually eat it up but again i judge poorly written story

Just because you purposely sought out certain genres doesn't guarantee you're gonna have a good or bad time. Doesn't matter what your INTENTIONS were, it's how your experience went and that is exactly why you should rate it how you felt after completing. It's pretentious to think you shouldn't rate something negatively because you brought it upon yourself. Also, turn that logic around and would it make sense to say "I purposely read fluff genre but no matter how much I like it, I never give it a good rating." No, it wouldn't lol. Ratings is not about intent, it's about experience.
Idk about y’all but if I PURPOSEFULLY read a psychological story no matter how much I dislike it I never give it bad rating (this isnt to say I give it a good rating) and I wanted to know if thats also like with you all? Personally I believe its stupid because I went with the expectation that its psychological so its gonna have fucked up shit but again that also doesn’t inherently mean I should like it…
