The whole novel feels like a love letter to humanity honestly. The optimism and pessimism of it. The love and kindness in the midst of chaos and darkness. I think you'll be fulfilled, because some characters do survive, but along the way there are so many philosophical questions on humanity and what it means to be human in all its complexities, and how sometimes that's more questions than answers. However, it's from the perspective of a literal mushroom, so there is a sense of an outsider looking in, an innocent voyeur to the saga of humanity.
II've read a handful of Danmei since Little Mushroom but it is still unparalleled in this regard.

I absolutely love when a story turns philosophical like that. Especially so in a setting where survival triumphs everything else. Where the line of morality thins, and you question everything. People will do things for "the greater good", but what is really good here?
Kinda reminds me of the games "The Last of Us" and "Life is Strange". Is it really moral to sacrifice the life of a child to save humanity? Is it really moral to let the world be destroyed just to save your best friend? What is the line that should or should not be crossed here?
Maybe someone did already spoiled it, but I still wanna know for sure, other than MC and ML, did everyone die? Or is there groups of humans still surviving?
