one thing i never understood abt the “royal heir” thing of this manwha (which is also said in the novel, which i was originally confused about) was, how is clawd’s son the crown prince???? like i understand that the king is unable to have children as per his own words, but he has a sister??? who also has a husband to which they can have kids??? like in what world does the duke have a higher chance of their child becoming king than a PRINCESS???? am i misreading this?

So I was thinking about this as well but I think the logic here (if any) is the princess station was demoted to that of her husband (FL's brother) so she wouldn't be next in line for the throne. However, the ML mother is also a princess and married a Duke and in going by hierarchy her son aka ML would be next but since he obvi will inherent the Dukedom plus the current king is also similar in age it will fall onto Caraim. It also helps since he's a boy cause patriarchy.

Dukes/Duchess station are usually given to the brothers/sister of the King and Queen. So if you are the son of the Duke/Duchess, you are most likely the cousin

So if the main line of the current king/queen dont have an heir, the next in line are usually the dukes/duchess and their kids.

he said he wont have an heir but since the ml is the duke, he cant be next in line. it would make his son the next in line since they (ml and the prince) both have noble blood

my thing is the princess is still higher up in the chain even if she IS a woman, if she has a child, then her kid is automatically gonna be higher up then cairam bc she’s directly related to the king by blood (siblings closer than cousins). why make cairam crown prince in this story when 1) the princess is LITERALLY right there and 2) gives cariam WAYYY less responsibility and answers what would happen bc of the king lack of children.

idk if the princess has a child but im pre sure the king can also name his successor. now, in this era, women never got the throne so im not surprised she didnt. plus, if the princess marries someone below her rank, she basically loses her princess status.

i can understand the point of the king naming his successor, however if we are going off of royal succession in the sense of the past (which is what most manwhas go off of), a princess normally never takes the throne UNLESS there is no prince/king in place to have children. if the king has no children, then the next in line is the princess’s children, to which if the king dies before the child is old enough to rule by themself, we see in countless cases in other manwhas (and irl) that the princess or next in line for the throne is made to be the queen regent while the actual monarch, the princess’s child becomes of age.
i’m CERTAINLY making this thing WAYYY out of proportion, but it just confuses me as to why the princess was right there and yet the duke’s child is the successor???

I think you missed the key point in the story of why the sisters children lose the right to the throne. Remember all the drama with the father and stepmother of Camilla. Well, they lost their position and so did the brother but the princess still decided to marry him because they love each other. Therefore, the princess, once she marries gets the hubby's rank in this case because of her hubby's punishment. Now I know you can just get adopted into her rank but because he was directly punishment (hiding the fact that he had a sister and not a brother), they couldn't do that. Choosing to still marry him was acknowledging that she will no longer be a princess. Losing her rights for the throne and her kids too. So the next higher rank in this case that can become a heir to the throne would be the duke's kids.

More simple his mother is the princess, the sister of the previews king so kinda makes him or his son more legitimate for the throne.
