I think it just goes to highlight the difference between those on the outside and Dan who knows Jaekyung so personally. And it also goes to show how lonely Dan is because he has never told anyone who Jaekyung put him through.

If I had more faith in the author I would think it might be an example of how good abusers are at blending in, hiding their bad side in front of strangers and coming across as "charming" or "proper".

What is the autor trying to accomplish by reguraly having strangers praise Jk ? How are we expected to persive those scenes??
Think "oh he can be a good guy" or "he has his good sides" ???
It just feels kinda tonedeaf and uncomfortable, especially when it's Dan's grandma who became so fond of him
