Cassette tape = stores memory IS a physical object of memory
    Cassette player = records memory

As you may have seen, those who have a cassette tape ā€œsave their progressā€ by inserting it into a cassette player:

Cassette tape stores memory IS memory ā€”> Insert cassette tape into cassette player ā€”> cassette player records characterā€™s round up until they die into the cassette tape, building memory ā€”> player dies and goes to next round ā€”> remembers round because cassette player was recording into their cassette tape ā€”> repeat the process

Itā€™s safe to say Bada and Yongtaekā€™s tapeā€™s where fucked around with at some point in the distant past. Bada having no recollection outside of the game, implies he has been using a new cassette tape, because his previous character would have stored his memory outside of the game into his original cassette tape. We also know that one you mess with a cassette player, starting a new one means you start with a clean slate, meaning the memories of your previous cassette are wiped out entirely. Youngtaek is evidence of this as we see a similar cassette tape to his already in the mining area (map), and he has no recollection of it. Itā€™s like youā€™re restarting your brain.

Also I strongly believe that the cassette players have limited memory storage. Because the author mentions that they can just stop by themselves. Which honestly makes sense because cassette players donā€™t just keep on playing indefinitely.

Yeah lol actually I went back to reread the whole story and wow, there are so many cassette tapes unaccounted for. I had to come back to my own explanation and the authors because I actually got confused again. Thereā€™s like so many questions, because theyā€™re obviously color coded and correspond to certain maps, and thereā€™s like repeats of the same tapes. Then the whole thing with Bada only having to insert his cassette tape and leave it in the cassette player, but Seongchan having to grab his tape in the beginning of each round, to re-insert it into another cassette player. I am so severely consumed lmao
