character development is stunning

the thing i noticed hard from this series is tae-ju's effort to redeem himself. we all can see he tried hard to be better person while acknowledging that he committed wrongdoings he couldn't undo. it made him anxious and having guilty conscience he doesn't want to be near eui-hyun for the fear that he'd repeat the same mistake

i was putting a break when reading it back then, after the r*pe repetitive scenes in first chapters, it gets a little depressing when you see eui-hyun stucked in something he couldn't even choose. either rack himself in the debt that didn't belong to him, or staying with the debtor who's also the perpetrator for his sufferings; both options are hell-holes

but it gets better in season 3 when tae-ju's completely redeemed himself, even put the blame only to himself, for inflicting pain and hurt to eui-hyun. when you think again, the reason why he acted like that because he's too scared to lose eui-hyun. they had nothing to bind them at that time, unless the debt kim sang-hyuk left eui-hyun. if the debt was gone, then what reason do eui-hyun has to stay with tae-ju? they're no longer have to be together. but at that time, their relationship is at the point where it couldn't turn back normal, so it would be impossible for tae-ju to suddenly say that he falls in love for eui-hyun and want to be with him; that's why he revert to the debt

in the final chapters, i personally think what eui-hyun felt towards him ain't purely love (or even not love at all) but more like because he just too used to have tae-ju by his side now and then, so it feels like an empty when they're not together. of course it would take time to grow genuine feelings for somebody who made your life hard, but it doesn't mean there's no space for any feelings to grow from there

the author wrote in her afternote that the point of this story is to make tae-ju who was only loved himself all his life, meet eui-hyun who has no self-worth and they both learned how to love, so i guess this story delivered it fairly

(ps: the art style is one of a kind though, the sex scenes felt very intense, judging alone the expression in the characters' faces)
