I think it's honestly related to the spoilers, but let's just say the mask guy cares a lot about the MC. It's been a second since I read this, but I think mask guy knows about MC's identity as J, so he is perplexed why J works the part-time job and has obviously the history of being J, yet chooses to live a very frugal life. Yes, it's how normal people live, but the MC is clearly a very far from normal person. Also, to be fair, a big reason why MC signed the contract with mask guy is because he wanted to help the granny.

apparently, J and mask guy have lived two past lives together (in the same time line as in like with the same face, not reincarnated or whatever), and so I'd expect that mask guy would be able to recognize J and I believe he has retained his memories unlike J. Keep in mind, they lived together for some time as well in the previous lives and mask guy was down bad for J i believe, but correct me if im wrong

Regarding the past timeline memory stuff, ML does NOT retain memories of it as of rn. The regression doesn’t work in the way that it does for other stories where everyone might remember bits and pieces as time goes on, at least not for now. ML strongly suspects MC as being J (MC is extremely bad at hiding it lol) but won’t do anything until he’s 100% certain. He’s also super salty about MC living such a terrible life before as J and just wants him to live happily

Yupp and ml rn has no idea of how J really looks. J never took off his mask and previously when he met ml, the ml was blind due to poison. So he literally doesn't have any clue who J might be except the way of talking etc.

Ohh, I see. Regardless though, I feel like it is very obvious that MC is J? At least it is quite suspicious that J came back on the leader board when the seeming appearance of MC occurred, how strong MC is, and even his vibe/character, would be telling to someone like the ML. Though regardless, I personally feel like manhwa might diverge from the novel in the aspect of how many memories ML has considering he seems to care A LOT about things that wouldn't really matter to any other hunter (such as the crack that took J in, and how somehow he manifested such intense powers due to desires stemming from...?) I might be reaching, but I feel like it is hinted that ML has some kind of remembrance of his past? Anyway, it is still clear that the MC isn't a normal person (super strong and clearly has the means to wealth), but chooses to live frugally, so I do not think ML's reaction is that weird.

Okay so, as readers we do feel it's obvious, but to the characters in the story, it's rather a strong suspicious person who hasn't registered themselves to avoid being tracked by the government. The rift closed 8 years ago or so. Our ml is obviously attracted to mc and cares of his well being rn, he has doubts but there will be instances later in the story where he becomes sure that mc is J.

No one knows who J is. When he was active as a hunter, he never showed his face to public, had a voice modulation and never used his real name. Our ml has a special interaction with J before the rift, where J saved the ml from a poison dungeon outbreak. Ml was the lone survivor and was barely alive, blind. J used to visit him everyday and still the mask was on, so ml still doesn't know J's real voice.

Again, if an insanely strong person that was UNREGISTERED appeared at the same time that the leaderboard got refreshed and J also appeared at the same time, I would imagine that that alone is pretty telling considering they should be smart and not dense characters. Though ML isn't 100% sure it is indeed J, I feel like he is already projecting J's imagine onto MC regardless. Also, again, I'm confused as to why the ML has power now compared to the previous timelines if he doesn't have his memories unless he just went back in time and suddenly had them with no recollection of why he does?

J is also just insanely bad at hiding things. Like saying things like “back in my day” about old school hunters, not knowing about the value of those magic stones, etc.

I think it’s worth noting that some of your assumptions about the plot aren’t correct. Everything will be explained in time, maybe in like 30-40 manhwa chapters, depending on how fast things go?

Yeah as you said in the first part, it is kind of not just on the readers but also to the ML to at least partially recognize J.

Also, yeah, other repliers already told me that my spoilers weren't correct LOL, either way, I just responded to the original comment cuz i felt like it made sense why ML's behavior toward MC was the way it was in the manhwa.

Yes yes, he suspects and is projecting onto mc that he's J. But there is no solid evidence yet. Even if two-three things are pointing at him being J, our ml has been searching for him for yearsss, he needs proper evidence as to not have false hopes.
And ml does not have new powers or something that he got from previous timeline. I would suggest you to forget about the timeline thing rn, it doesn't work the same way it usually is in other stories and at this point of the story there is no relation to the past life.

When ml was young, he was caught up in a poison dungeon explosion with his family. His parents covered him with their bodies, both died and ml was barely alive, shriveled up, burnt from all the toxins, blind, unable to speak etc. J, our mc, went there to search for survivors, everyone had given up seeing the devastating aftermath of that place. He recues him and personally sponsors his hospital bills as there are soooo many more people, with better chances of survival for the hospital to care after. (Sugar daddy much lol) The normal, non hunter, people were on the later end of receiving hospital services as hunters also got hurt a lot, everything was new for everyone. As ml slowly got better, mc used to talk to him and tell him about his day and it slowly became their routine for months. Ml was all bandaged up, couldn't speak and mc was always in his mask with altered voice. When the west sea rift happened and ppl didn't return J was asked to head in. J promises ml that he would be back soon, then we all know what happens. Later as there is no one to sponsor ml's recovery, Ml is kind of kidnapped by one of the nurses, who is associated with an organization, where he is heavily experimented on over poisons. That is where he finally awakens with the poison powers and destroys the whole place where he was being held at.
