i guess you are always to dislike the main character however it’s boring to assume every main character will be angelic, pure, selfless <insert mary sue qualities> etc. stories are inspired by life, human experiences and true to word…people are…nuanced. so yeah doi maybe be selfish when it comes to wanting love and confessing his love to baba. but i’d go as far to say he’s actually selfless in a way. he acknowledged baba’s rejection and still decided to help prevent baba’s sister’s death. you may think his intention for doing that is to prevent baba from leaving but i think his true intention to prevent baba from experiencing loss and grief that come from losing on the most important people in his life. he saw how distraught baba was to the point he became reticent and reserved. he likes baba so he wants him to be happy. maybe that’s selfish. but then according to some comments…we’d all be considered selfish if wanted love and those we love to be happy and not be hurt…and he doesn’t even know who baba senpai’s future spouse is (therefore cannot deduce the fact that the future spouse was the sister’s bf) and baba senpai has said he doesn’t want to date doi…so, has doi really broken up a relationship…if it hasn’t happened? he’s very timid and shy and kinda awkward. the actions align with his characterisation. you can’t expect him to behave the way you would behave in that situation cuz you’re not him.
