Nah jk I do think he’ll live though (I’m coping). There’s only one reason that I think he’ll survive and it’s because it’s a Chekov’s gun that I think the author will use later. We haven’t seen it yet but it’ll be there in a few chaps. I am snorting massive amounts of copium tho so take it with a grain of salt. If Xin doesn’t survive I’ll jump into the story myself and revive him with the power of lebron. Also would u mind dropping the other 2 stories like this? I’m intrigued and I need more good reads.

im glad u have faith in me pookie but imma explain it anyways lmao. To put it plainly, a Chekov's gun is a narrative device. basically it means that every detail in the story should have relevancy to the plot. in the original "Chekov's gun" Chekov says, that if its mentioned there's a gun hanging on the wall, at some point in the story the gun should go off. basically, every detail should have a narrative purpose. this especially works well in mystery stories (like this one cough cough).

for example, in this story u can see a lot of hints about what was going on early on. ie, in chapter 25, the stick that Lian is using to eat fruit is the same iron awl originally used to carve the turtle shell for the head family ritual. the author deliberately lingered on this stick & its design in many panels so that the audience notices it. this is supposed to draw a parallel to how lian's doing the tattoo on xin. this author's REALLY REALLY good at using this narrative device so hopefully i'm right about that and they use it again to save my baby xin.
