I guess he doesn't initiate...it is the women (his known partners and those who are single) goes to his room every night, and they talk amongst themselves on who wants to go to his room. And yes they made some children.
Harem life isn't shown much...more like developing the village and such, so if a reader doesn't really like harem and only wants the village life, they wouldn't have much of a problem
so the children aren't really in the story?
