Right? There's no benefit for him, he's just doing her a favour but it's not really necessary to get married if the Duke is willing to adopt her as a daughter no? This really left me confused... it's obviously been done to force the troupe of "it was supposed to be a contract marriage but we fell in love"
I think its probably because if they are married then she can leave the family through divorce when she wants to but if she gets adopted as a daughter then it would be hard to just leave the family? I mean it would be weird to take your name out of the family tree and leave, you dont usually do that. She can only do that by marrying to someone after coming of age but from the looks of it, marrying and settling dow is not her priority so marrying ml until they are of age is the better option she thought of. But I too think its kinda unfair for ml coz whats the point lol.
