? Because a purpose of books is to make us sympathize with the characters. We don't know how Riftan is doing. If he's hurt if he's alive, etc. so alongside MC we experience worrying over his well-being and how she's able to take her mind off of the worrying. Also her growth from the very beginning when she was wary of everyone now to being able to step up in a crowd and help. If we know how Riftan was doing while MC doesn't, then we wouldn't worry with MC. We'd just be sitting there chastising her for her worry since we know he's doing fine. This is a great use of perspective in my opinion. Showing not telling :).
