It’s so funny in the novel —Josh kisses Chase, starts unbuttoning his clothes, and Chase says, “Do you wanna die?” So Josh stops. Then Chase starts mentally cursing him like, “Why did you stop?”

So basically, he isn't as much weak and submissive as he is an apologist. Like he sometimes overlooks Chase's behaviour, but... he does ask Chase if he can beat the shit out of him, and proceeds to punch him and they fight. I also believe that he initiates sexual contact after their reunion. He also ties Chase to the bed and gags him to punish him after Chase already says sorry and has his way with him (Chase doesn't easily get himself free like other Semes). He also talks about his sadistic desires towards Chase, and his desire to bite his lips until they're red and to make him squirm.
