No romance so far but there are hints of it. There are 3 possible female leads interested in him (not reciprocated) but I personally really like all of them. This is one of the very few stories with a male lead where the love interests aren"t annoying (imo), they're quite cool insted. So even if he actually got with one of them (one of the three has the greatest chance) I wouldn't mind at all.
So yeah give it a try, it's not such an important part of the story anyway
And they are strong to compete with mc, so they aren't lady in distress. Well at least 2 of them
That's another plus! I love the idea that they could become a power couple
