idk i think its less sexism and more of the mc evaluating his potential "army" i guess. Yes all of the hard work of preparing a multi course meal for like 10+ is hard af (i comend her i would have passed out after finishing) but her husband is the person the mc is more focused on since he's doing like the bidding for the mc. plus i dont think the author showed us if the wife had any affinity towards offensive fighting, so maybe later on she becomes a fairly strong character and the focus right now is more on her husband (thats just how i interpreted it i mean no offense to you) ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

oh and plus the husband is the only whos going out and fighting right now so it also makes sense to give him the ex so he's stronger to keep going out

I rest my case with every response to my comment. Its not that any of you are wrong logically, & I also understand that the mc meant to have at least 1 one the citizens become a vassal fast. But it still doesn't make this storyline not sexist.

A sexist patriarchal viewpoint in this manga implies that the job of the father is protection & providing. He is fat as fuck in a fancy apartment, & probably does a high paying desk job. Fact--this guy is unfit in every sense of the word.

A wife's job is fixed to the corners of the home & in childcare. Unclear whether she is more physically fit that her fat husband. But patriarchy implies he must go out & bring them food.

And the author chose a storyline with the husband as his primary vassal to gain xp as you all mentioned. N I fully agree with that.

There are 2 types of reasoning--

    1. Within the world of this manga--which your replies are about. Which I fully agree.

    2. The motivations & perceptions when creating this manga. The stimulus is external---which means author. So when I say that the author deliberately chose a storyline that was very conveniently sexist implies that he was only affirming his sexist perception into what he created--this manga.

Thus the manga is still sexist despite the fact that internally the mc chose to reward the husband for the wife's unpaid labour for xp. It doesn't take away the sexism from that author's choice

In my opinion, further into the story I've read, tells me that the author wants to remain neutral from being sexist or something by putting characters that represents of the opposing sides.

Firstly, the father you've been talking about is the character that represents the sexist side to not make it seem feminist, because the story mainly highlights the OP-ness of the MC, and imo, he's a chara that balances MC's way of not going out and provide for his "family".

Further in the storyline, we meet a werebear woman, which represents the feminist side of the spectrum, so it balances each other out. It is way out of the sexist attribute you've claim the manhwa to be.

The problem lies in the timing of events. As a story-writer myself, it's hard to balance two opposing sides in just 3 chapters or so. Introducing two very different characters might seem overloading on the readers.

Think of it flipped, if the werebear woman were introduced first and protects her own family. While another man is shown to have strength stronger than her? Would it seem more sexist?

Besides I the current story, the family guy just seemed to be a stepping stone towards the werebear, to inevitably take the tank role in the end.

So in no way or form is the manhwa is TRYING to be sexist or feminist. It's why you give 17 chapters or more to deduct any claims or so.

What does a woman transforming into a bear have to do with feminism?

In fact, the idea that a "mother can do anything to protect their child" is where the words "mama bear" comes from.

The same expectation of parental duty & love for some reason is not put on men, but on women. And I admit the author has very cleverly used this old adage in his manga.

Though of course after having read till the latest updated chapter other sexist elements are not very obvious.

But that unpaid labourer--"The mother & wife", still continues to cook for all the mc's guests. If it was in the form of a quest so she can also level up, I could still understand. But her labour performance is taken for granted. It seems like an unspoken thing that she will cook & entertain his guests. I mean that's a lot of people, some could at least help u know cook together. Her labour in the kitchen is invisible & not even shown in manga.

And this doesn't apply to the younger females because in this world, they appear single, independent & at the same time considered not as important as their single male friends.

So far author made the mc chose 3 male characters to level up. And don't count the mama bear, she levelled up on her own.
