I think it's not because their readers like it. just like us, i think most of the readers hated it. But just because we hate it, it doesn't make us stop reading it somehow. I believe it precisely because the author knew what they're doing. Rage baiting.
i'm just like so confused. What statistical census are so many of these manhwa authors receiving that say their target customer base wants a rape story line. Like every major BL manhwa right now has a non-consensual story line one way or another. It's all just assault and then the uke in the story just passes it off, but that's not how normal people react. I've been reading BL for like 9 years and this is becoming so popular in mainstream stories in ways it never was before I feel.
