Idk if I remember it right but I think the ugly uncle is well connected to high authorities or smth and it's kind of hinted that if something happened to him or he died he has a plan to ruin or expose the couple therefore making them suffer even if his ugly ass is gone

Especially the pure blooded, Ethan is family to them. But yeah, there's not much info about the world but I think the people who live hundreds of years have more advantages and connections than an old man.
Yeah this thing could've ended fast just like how that oldie's life could end in 1 chapter. Vampires wouldn't sit and watch if Ethan kills the uncle it's like giving their species a favor killing their #1 hunter.
