Same here. I’m not ignoring the fact that he’s TERRIBLE but I definitely also think he’s manic and truly going mad as well. There was way too many mood shifts in that short period of time to be normal

I actually don’t think he was intentionally manipulative in the head banging scene specifically. It honestly looked like he had a mental break after not getting the answer he wanted and then he regathered himself when they were interrupted and he smiled. Because right after that mood shift is when he threatened the mc with what would happen if he ever left. It’s not giving a rapist empathy, it’s just seeing how truly mad the king is and how it’s kind of sad to see how insane he actually is. But maybe that’s just how I interpret it
Oh no i agree with that completely, he is very sick mentally, but just like you said after he gathered himself he went back to being manipulative.
I think he was having a mental breakdown/tantrum bcuz the mc doesn't feel anything towards him (bcuz nothing is going "his way")
He literally fluctuated between anger sadness anger again defeat and smugness all in one chapter. It just shows how unstable he is
Same that looked like he was having a breakdown rather than using it to get his way, could be both tho. I think he suffers severe delusions, has a narcisisstic disorder or some form of bpd where hyunnim is his Favourite Person

Yeah, exactly. Like he had no choiche but to do his duties(marry) while he was frustrated with his one sided love, wich was fueling his tramua and his bad behaviour even more. That roleplay while he tried to cope with his feelings, frustration was like a cry for help. It's just sad to see someone break.

I see the mental illness in the king and kinda feel sorry for him a bit at this point. I know he did terrible things, and deserves a dick chop, but still. He was pitifull in this chapter(22).
