i think i can answer some or at least theorize some, cause these are interesting
*feel i should add that some of these answers might be spoilers*
4) i think this time right before shavonne was trying to convince him to stop killing, he was hunting those officers from the lute prison( it was shown in his flashback about his time at lute) after that, I honestly don't know. I literally thought lewellyn just liked walking around, gathering his thoughts
5) My guess is that his money came from the assassinations he did when he was considered 'the dog', but im still unsure with this because the type of people his "brother" & dr.fawkes were, highly doubt they was paying him anything
6) Its a byproduct of his environment at lute and I think it serves a reminder to him too, never forgetting what done to him at lute
7) I felt fawkes being surprised at that moment was fake, as we know it was him that always setting up shavonne with guys so he can monitor his mental state. I also feel that fawkes had to have done some mental conditioning to them as well, because they got easily obsessed with shavonne rather quickly. but yeah, turner deserved all he got and the previous boyfriend deserved it too.
spoiler warning
Please note I’m doing stuff based on memory and trying not to make things too long so it’s easier to read- these answers are coming from a novel reader which I can link if wanted !
1- It was implied why he had that reaction in the novel since lewellyn has an abnormal physical condition, he is hypersensitive and doesn’t have tolerance for medication so because of the experiments done on him he gets like that. So (assuming here) taking those meds he sleeps way more than the average person and would have woken up by himself but since he was taking long he freaked shavonne out. (Hopefully this makes sense)
2- (assuming here too) shavonne got rid of the candle and since lewellyn said “smells are disgusting when they mix” he put those candles to help cover up the smell of the dead body or neutralize the smell so that people can’t smell it and get him exposed. Also He put the body there since he was probably transporting it since he only killed people who helped tortured him and put their bodies on display so that past guards of lute feel threatened.
3-Lewellyn is beautiful. It’s rare to find a beauty in the slums so people assumed he sells his body to get by because of his looks
4- Lewellyn did not work other than being an assassin and it’s never said if he got anything out of it but I’m 100% sure he didn’t get anything. Trying to give the least amount of spoilers in case you read the novel but he kills a “teacher” of his who was training him to kill and stole his money and shavonne did ask but he was afraid of the answer lewellyn would give him so he changed topic
5- since he stole a good amount of money from a rich man he was pretty well off I’d say
6-user Lachrimosa explained this already :))
7-I agree with the other user reply to this question but also I think fawkes was genuinely kinda shocked I think turner in his mind thought that by forcing him to have sex with him shavonne would somehow come to like him or form some kind of closer relationship since he was getting frustrated how much shavonne wasn’t responding to his flirting and he was just a greedy bitch basically he didn’t actually like shavonne
8-This is difficult to answer and I won’t be able to… I have the same thoughts as well the author doesn’t detail this part and it disappointed me I wanted them to sit down and have a heart to heart about what happened
This is kinda rushed please let me know if I need to explain better …
this was incredibly written and the ending was super satisfying, but i have a couple of questions (hoping someone could maybe clear them up?)
*edit: atp this is just a dump for all my unanswered thoughts lmao pls excuse the word vomit
1) i know that lewellyn was shown to be taking sleeping pills when he was being transported between his jobs to kill targets, but was it ever stated why he had an adverse reaction when shavonne drugged him without his knowledge?
2) what happened with the candle shavonne took from his apartment... or with the candles in general? was it just a murderer gimmick thing or does it have any deeper meaning/significance in the story?
3) why were people looking to lewellyn for sex near the beginning (prostitution)?
4) did lewellyn ever actually work (i know he left the apartment complex often but i dont think it was ever mentioned where he was going)? after shavonne and lewellyn become lovers why does lewellyn still not tell shavonne what he does for a living?
5) was lewellyn really ever wealthy? and if so how did he get the money?
6) why are lewellyn's nails blackened? was it just a byproduct of his environment at lute?
7) why did turner try to come on to shavonne if his job was only to seduce & monitor shavonne (since fawkes also seemed surprised when shavonne told him)? sure, turner could just be tactless scumbag, but did he actually become enamored with shavonne? like what would the point of trying to rape him be if he actually had a life outside of the fake editing and only wanted the money?? glad he got castrated
8) maybe more of a commentary rather than a question: lewellyn was obviously struggling with some serious trust/dependency issues (e.g. believing shavonne was lying about loving him) right up until his flashback chapters because of shavonne's behavior in the past (which is super understandable), but it seems like it was just dropped/resolved without explanation later on?? like yes lewellyn confronted shavonne about his distancing behavior during the turner arc but that was later on and less about lewellyn's own mentality and more about shavonne's decisions (it seemed like lewellyn was already obedient and accepting of shavonne wholeheartedly by then)... so my question is: was this fleshed out more in the novel or is it just a flaw of the writing?
