a lot of japanese bl manga also depict the children never growing out of their crush though, lol, & most "waiting" for the younger one to be of age. while most have a "closer" age gap compared to tsubaki & yuu, considering the whole genre of this manga, i highly doubt it'll be the way you said it & will continue on the more common route of bl mangas with childhood first love trope route

i feel like the story is going to end with tsubaki growing up of his admiration for yuu
because in Japan is very normalize feed the delusions of kids over a grown up crush, that's why no one in the story has say something WE as westerners would have said
the story can either end with tsubaki and yuu staying friends OR one of those big ass time skips where they re encounter after a long time and catch up
