He was traumatized, he had a lot of unresolved issues. I'm sure if he had gotten some sort of therapy he would've never even raised his voice at her for how much he loved her. Things got twisted, her ignorance and lack of wanting to understand had belittled him and triggered him. I know it's not her fault but nothing is sunshine and rainbows, he was a broken man and she was his clean water, this was bound to happen since she lived life as a fairytale.
